Scott Bywater

Timpanist Scott Bywater performs with Britain's finest orchestras, including The London Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, English National Opera, London Mozart Players and The BBC Concert Orchestra.  He has worked with great conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Mistlav Rostropovich.

Scott is in demand as both timpanist and orchestral percussionist but he specialises as a timpanist, equally at home in large symphonic or chamber music environments.  Early music and authentic performance have led him to play with ensembles such as The Academy of Ancient Music, Gabrieli Consort, Hanover Band and Early Opera Company with conductors including Richard Egarr, Christopher Hogwood, Paul Macreesh and Christian Curnyn.

Notable recording successes include Benjamin Britten's Nocturne Op.60 for tenor, seven obbligato instruments and strings released in 2012 with Mark Padmore and the Britten Sinfonia; Proclamation with The International Celebrity Trumpet Ensemble, a group formed by renowned British trumpeter Paul Archibald; and The Judgement of Paris, a world premiere recording with Christian Curnyn and the Early Opera Company.  Please explore the Listen page to hear excerpts from these and other recordings.

In 2007 Scott accepted Associateship of the Royal Academy of Music, offered to past students of the Academy who have distinguished themselves in the music profession and made a significant contribution to it in their particular field.
